Conference Report

The XIV national conference of the Paediatric orthopaedic society of India was held on the 26th and 27th of January 2008, at the Jenney club, Coimbatore. There were two pre conference work shops on the 25th. The work shop in the forenoon session was on Titanium elastic nailing and the one in the afternoon session was on External fixators in Paediatric orthpaedics.

The main conference session included ‘How I do it” breakfast sessions, guest lectures, free papers and also 3 hrs of interactive sessions. There were about 170 delegates including participants from Pakistan, Bahrain, Muscat and Australia.

We had a strong team of guest speakers from POSNA. The POSNA team comprised of Dr. Rick Bowen, Dr. Richard Gross, Dr. Vince Mosca, Dr. Sanjeev Sabharwal, Hank Chambers and Mininder Kocher. Mr. James Fernandes of Sheffield children’s hospital, U.K and Dr. Abhay Khot from Melbourne, Australia were also part of the overseas faculty.

The interactive sessions on “Diagnostic dilemmas in hip radiology”, “Problem cases” and “Physeal injuries around the knee” were the highlights of the meet. There was a medal paper session in which a paper by Dr Hitesh Shah on ‘extent of remodeling of proximal femur and acetabulam between disease healing and skeletal maturity in Perthes disease” was awarded the best paper award.

The next annual conference will be held in Kolkatta.
