Applications are invited for The POSI – Prof. Kaye E. Wilkins Inland Travelling Fellowship. The purpose of the fellowship is to stimulate a desire to specialize and to obtain training exposure in the field of Paediatric Orthopaedics among younger Orthopaedic surgeons, by providing mentorship at dedicated Paediatric Orthopaedic Centres in the country. Three fellowships are available every year.

The purpose of this fellowship is to provide an opportunity for Orthopaedic Surgeons practicing in rural or underserved areas of India to visit POSI-approved Paediatric Orthopaedic Centres in India for a period of 1 – 3 months in order to hone their skills in basic paediatric orthopaedic conditions & procedures.

Applications are invited for Dr. Benjamin Joseph & Dr. Ashok Johari Visiting Scholar Award. In collaboration with the IBHMC and POSI, this award provides a mid-level / senior member of POSI between 40 to 55 years of age an opportunity to visit a centre in Canada or USA for a period of two weeks in an Observer capacity. Orthopaedic treatment for children existed from the time Orthopaedics was practised in India. The early pioneers included Dr. R. J. Katrak, Dr. M. G. Kini and many others spread out in different parts of the country. In Mumbai, Dr. P. K. Mullaferoze, Dr. K. T. Dholakia and others were keeping the flag flying high. Inspite of all this, children were hardly getting the attention they deserved. 1994 was to change all this!
Numerous discussions between Prof. Ashok Johari & Prof. Benjamin Joseph, both predominant paediatric orthopaedic surgeons, centred on the need for an academic society to further the objectives of orthopaedic treatment for children and for education and research in the field. In the 1990’s, starting specialised bodies was unheard of and required a lot of support from the hierarchy in Orthopaedics.
