The POSI – Prof. Kaye E. Wilkins Inland Travelling Fellowship

Purpose:

To stimulate a desire to specialize and to obtain training exposure in the field of Paediatric Orthopaedics among younger Orthopaedic surgeons, by providing mentorship at dedicated Paediatric Orthopaedic Centres in the country. Three fellowships are available every year. Candidates from SAARC countries are also eligible to apply for one of the fellowship positions.

Eligibility:
  1. Young orthopaedic surgeons (MS / DNB), less than 40 years of age at the time of last date for application
  2. Proof of interest in the field of Paediatric Orthopaedics (either by way of designation, pursuit of academic fellowships, pursuit of a research work, research publication, or work in a department doing large volume of work, or even a possibly underserved area where such a person is likely to make a difference to the paediatric patients)

Duration: Four weeks at one or two Paediatric Orthopaedic centres in India. If two centres are chosen, minimum duration at each centre should be 2 weeks.

Place:

The selected Fellows should intimate the Secretariat about the centre(s) they wish to visit and the tentative dates, within 1 month of being awarded the fellowship. Otherwise the Fellowship would be withdrawn and awarded to the next person on the waiting list.

The centre(s) to be visited:

  1. cannot be in their home city,
  2. must be Paediatric Orthopaedic centres of repute,
  3. senior faculty at the centre must be members of POSI, and
  4. the chosen centres must be approved by the EC prior to commencing the fellowship.

A one page report and logbook counter-signed by the Fellowship mentor / Head of Dept. of the visiting institution must be submitted to the Secretariat within 1 month of completion of fellowship.

Stipend:

Upon successful completion of the fellowship and submission of fellowship report and log-book to the POSI Secretariat the candidate will receive a sum of Rs. 25,000 and a certificate from POS

How do you apply?:

Eligible candidates should submit one copy of their Biodata and the application form in the prescribed format electronically, addressed to the Secretary POSI, clearly super- scribing the application with “Application for the POSI Prof. Kaye E. Wilkins Inland Travelling Fellowships”. The application must also be accompanied by two (2) letters of recommendation, one preferably from the Head of the Dept. where the candidate is working presently and one from a senior teacher or guide. No physical applications will be accepted.

Last Date for receiving the application:

31st August each year. Successful candidates will be notified about their selection by 30th November.

Fellowship start date:

Between January - December of the year the fellowship is granted for.
