Aims, objectives and Target Audience

The presence of physis and occurrence of physeal injuries is one of the unique aspects of management of fractures in children. Physeal injuries constitute about 15% of all fractures in children and every orthopaedic surgeon is confronted with these injuries fairly frequently. Inappropriate management of physeal injuries can have devastating consequences and can lead to deformities and limb length discrepancies which need complex reconstructions. The ICL on physeal injuries is specifically designed keeping in mind the needs of the General Orthopaedic surgeon. It aims to provide an overview of the basic principles, decision making and fixation techniques in acute physeal injuries so as to minimize the risk of sequelae. Furthermore, management of sequelae due to physeal bars will be discussed in detail.

Format

The format of the ICL will be didactic lectures wherein the theoretical aspects of physeal injuries will be elaborated, followed by an interactive case discussion session wherein various real-life case scenarios will be discussed. Active audience participation will be encouraged during the case discussion session.

USP

Our international faculty comprising Dr Sanjeev Sabharwal and Dr Shital Parikh are world-renowned experts in the management of Pediatric Orthopaedic trauma. They will be ably supported by our National faculty comprising Dr. R. Sanker, Dr. Sandeep Vaidya and Dr. Gowerdhan Ingale.
