In the Pearl Jubilee Year, POSICON 2024 begins with pearls of learning skills and knowledge in the form of eight Instructional Course Lectures (ICLs) which are included in the registration fees. Each ICL will be presented by International Masters in the field along with POSI faculty. There will be a total of 8 ICLs in 4 halls on the Preconference Day (16th February, 2024).

Each delegate can select any 2 ICLs of their choice which he can mention at the time of registration.

BASIC PELVIC OSTEOTOMIES

WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT

  • Every orthopod comes across the names of pelvic osteotomies but there is lack of clarity regarding their differences and their utility.
  • This basic pelvic osteotomies ICL aims to dispel some confusion regarding pelvic osteotomies.
  • Saw bone hands on workshop and surgical videos will allow the participants to get oriented with the 3-dimensional nature of osteotomies.

    OSTEOTOMIES FOR LEVER ARM DISORDERS IN CEREBRAL PALSY

    WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT

  • This course is designed for practitioners who have cerebral palsy patients in large numbers in their practice. Lever arm disorders are difficult situations to encounter in children with cerebral palsy.
  • This ICL will discuss about gait patterns, crouch gait, miserable malalignment syndrome, rotational axis disorders.
  • Techniques of assessment like Clinical, Gait analysis, rotational profle.
  • Discussions, surgical videos and hands on workshop will provide technical details and tips to achieve good outcomes.
  • Techniques: Distal femoral extension osteotomy, Patellar tendon advancement, proximal femoral varus osteotomies, derotation osteotomies, foot osteotomies etc.

    GAIT ANALYSIS FOR THE NOVICE

  • This course is designed for practitioners of all levels with an interest in normal gait and pathologic gait associated with a variety of pediatric orthopaedic conditions.
  • This is designed to demystify a complex subject. Participants, without prior exposure or experience, can learn about use of quantitative gait analysis for assessment and clinical decision-making.
  • Introduce the various elements of Quantitative gait analysis and application of this approach to a variety of clinical conditions.
  • Case based examples to illustrate the principles and applications of 2D and 3D Gait Analysis in clinical situations.

    NON - TRAUMATIC PEDIATRIC UPPER LIMB DISORDERS

    WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT

  • This ICL is for specialists who take keen interest in Pediatric Upper Limb disorders. This ICL aims to take the participants through a journey of upper limb disorders which is thought to be complex and sensitive field but is equally rewarding if performed with dedication and meticulous perfection.
  • This ICL will discuss about topics like limb deficiencies , radial club hand, radioulnar synostois, thumb aplasia, radial head dislocation, brachial plexus palsy, upper limb arhtrogryposis, syndactyly, madelung deformity and many more.
  • Useful surgical videos, instrumentation, assessment post-operative protocol and therapy will also be an integral part of the ICL.

    DDH BEFORE WALKING AGE

    WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT

  • This course is for practitioners who come across developmental dysplasia of hip.
  • This is an interactive session where the participants can discuss about the true incidence of DDH in Indian and global scenario, early diagnosis of DDH and risk factors.
  • This will also entail discussion into the screening and diagnostic tools for DDH in neonates like ultrasound, its utilities and limitations.
  • This will also discuss the guidelines for screening, diagnosis and management pathways like IHDI and DDH Care pathway for DDH in neonates and infants.
  • This will also empower the participants to propagate their knowledge to colleagues like paediatricians and primary care givers of neonates.

    CLUBFOOT

    WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT

  • This course is designed for trainees and practictioners who are interested in treatment of clubfoot children. This course is designed to orient the attendee with all aspects of clubfoot treatment in the neonate and infant including assessment, serial casting, tenotomy, bracing and follow up.
  • This session is going to be interactive so that participants can discuss their doubts with experts.
  • Hands on workshop for Ponseti casting will give participants good opportunity learn and relearn the perfect technique.

    CORONAL PLANE DEFORMITIES IN CHILDREN

    WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT

  • This ICL is designed for thorough discussion into the coronal plane deformities, mainly around joints, particularly the knee. This ICL seeks to emphasise the need for a clear knowledge in management of genu valgum and varum and similar conditions like Blounts disease.
  • This ICL will discuss about assessment, how to take perfect scanogram for planning, estimation of bone age and growth remaining.
  • Various techniques of growth modulation (8 plates, PETS etc.), epiphysiodesis, osteotomies etc. will be discussed. Surgical videos, saw bone workshops are going to make this topic all the more immersive.

    DEFORMITY CORRECTION WITH 6-AXIS FACTOR

    WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT

  • This course is designed for practitioners enthusiastic about deformity correction . The 6-axis fixator in various forms is a powerful tool in confronting deformities which are especially complex.
  • This ICL will include practical assessment of deformity, planning correction and principles and actual technique of software aided gradual correction of deformity. Participants can have first - hand experience in real 6-axis fixator.
